Four Options The Eagles Can Take At Quarterback After Carson Wentz Trade

Carson Wentz is now a member of the Indianapolis Colts after a blockbuster trade on Thursday morning. That means the Philadelphia Eagles now have to think about the next step at the quarterback position.

Will it be Jalen Hurts, or does general manager Howie Roseman and company have someone else in mind? There are only so many options on the board for Philadelphia, and I'm ready to take a look at a few of them.

Here are the four options available. Which would you prefer?

1. Start Hurts, sign a veteran backup

A lot of people on social media assume Hurts will be the automatic starter. They believe Wentz was moved in order to clear a path for the second-year quarterback out of Oklahoma. If that's the case, a veteran option will still be needed to back him up.

Options in this scenario: Robert Griffin III; Matt Barkley; AJ McCarron; Geno Smith; Blaine Gabbert

2. Sign or trade for a veteran to compete with Hurts

Here is the problem with this scenario: there aren't a lot of trustworthy, veteran quarterbacks on the market. Sure, there are a few who could compete and be the starter if need be, but there aren't many out there who would add a lot of excitement.

Options in this scenario: Tyrod Taylor; Jacoby Brissett; Mitch Trubisky; Cam Newton; Ryan Fitzpatrick

3. Draft a quarterback with the No. 6 pick

We know Trevor Lawrence is going No. 1 overall. We also know, or we think we know, that Zach Wilson will be the second quarterback off the board. If that happens, there could still be a couple of options available at No. 6. This scenario would end any speculation that Hurts is the long-term guy.

Unfortunately, the holes around the new quarterback would still exist.

Options in this scenario: Justin Fields; Trey Lance; Mac Jones

4. Draft a quarterback on Day 2 or 3

This might be my favorite scenario outside of Option 1. The Eagles just acquired another Day 2 pick in the Wentz trade, so maybe it can be used to find competition for Hurts. Zach Goodall pointed out on Twitter that Kyle Trask and new QB coach Brian Johnson were together at Florida.

He would be the only one worth using a Day 2 pick on, but there are others who could be available on Day 3.

Options in this scenario: Kyle Trask; Jamie Newman; Kellen Mond; Davis Mills; Feleipe Franks
