Former SEC RB Target Kyree Young Shot and Killed, Says Family

Videos by OutKick

Former SEC running back target Kyree Young has been shot and killed, according to a tweet from Northeast Ohio High School Sports. The Ohio native had just graduated from Massillon Washington High School a few months ago, and was a part of the 2021 class.

Unfortunately, no more details about Young’s death have been released, although the family did confirm the news.

Young was a three-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound runner was listed as the nation’s No. 773 overall player, No. 51 running back and No. 31 player from the state of Ohio.

That may not seem like much, but Young had offers from several SEC programs, including Alabama, LSU, Kentucky and Tennessee. We are still trying to gather information as to why he didn’t sign to play somewhere in 2021, but it’s a tragic situation regardless.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

  1. It’s almost like these parents now care more about what school they can benefit from their kid getting a scholarship to then who they are actually hanging out with on a regular basis….I’m sure the new NIL push will help keep those situations from getting worse.
