Former Patriots WR Edelman Gives Input On NE Going With Rookie QB Jones

The New England Patriots have a new signal caller under center, as the team announced the release of Cam Newton, giving the starting QB job to rookie Mac Jones.

Jones has been getting nothing but praise from fellow teammates, including veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer, who went on WEEI radio and was asked about Jones.

“I definitely think that he has taken every opportunity and taken advantage of it,” Hoyer said on Monday.

“He has earned that respect by his preparation and his play. That’s really the only way you can do it, is when you step into that huddle and those guys know you know what to do, how to do it, and go out and execute."

Another Patriots player, former wide out Julian Edelman, spoke on 'Inside the NFL' HBO and gave his input on Jones' chances of having success early with the Pats.

“Nothing surprises me with Bill. Just look at the history,” Edelman said.

“I think the kid came out and did very well. You could see in his eyes, see in his reads, that he felt very comfortable in the pocket. He was looking at the right areas. He ran the no-huddle well."

The former Alabama quarterback will start his NFL career on opening day September 12th against Miami at home.
