Former Panthers DB Captain Munnerlyn Arrested For Strangling, Kicking A Woman

Retired NFL cornerback Captain Munnerlyn, 33, was arrested for physically abusing a woman, which included directly kicking her in the face per the victim's account.

Munnerlyn was arrested in Lincoln County on assault charges on Jan. 10; the incident first occurred on Jan. 3.

Drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2009, Munnerlyn became a staple of John Fox and Ron Rivera's defenses until 2013 — prior to leaving for the Minnesota Vikings, where he played between 2014-16. He returned to the Panthers in 2017 on a four-year, $21 million deal.

In 2019 he was released by Carolina and attempted to make the Buffalo Bills roster before getting cut and retiring.

According to PanthersWire, "Munnerlyn, who was charged with assaulting a female and assault by strangulation, had been released from custody after posting $7,500 bond."

WSOC-TV added that Munnerlyn previously got caught writing faulty checks back in 2019.

He is scheduled to appear at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse on March 1.
