Ryan Ayers, a former Notre Dame college basketball player and assistant coach, has been charged with voyeurism. For four years, Ayers allegedly captured illicit images of women without the women knowing what he was up to, according to TMZ.
The images, according to investigators, include shots of the women in the shower, in bed or in a sexual position. One of the women accused Ayers of sharing her images in a group chat with “the guys,” according to court documents. The South Bend Tribune reports a second woman “caught Ayers using his phone to record the two of them having sex.”
Ayers’ bio is still live on Notre Dame’s website and reveals that the former Irish basketball player was entering his fifth year on Mike Brey’s staff. As a player, Ayers made 51 career starts and was team captain during the 2008-09 season.
The Ayers’ legal team released a statement on the matter, welcoming their day in court to end this matter.
“Ryan denies the allegations. His defense team is coming together and will vigorously defend him. Ryan looks forward to clearing his name of these false charges.”
Brey issued his own statement, and the school has moved on from its former team captain.
“The university and I decided that Ryan was unable to continue in his role to be a leader of young men, so it was necessary to make the staffing change a few months ago. This is a personal issue for Ryan and we won’t elaborate any further.”
