College athletes making money off their name, image and likeness — also known as NIL — is coming. Despite a pushback from many, NIL feels inevitable, and we now even have athletes getting ahead of the game on social media.
Florida defensive back Trey Dean shared a post on Thursday evening making his pitch to potential companies who may want him to represent their brand. Here’s what his tweet had to say:
“According to NCAA, we will be granted the opportunity to capitalize on our likeness on the college stage. Here pretty soon us as student-athletes are going to be able to brand ourselves and other businesses and companies. Any local companies that want to use my social media or want me to do commercials to brand themselves, my DM is open!!”

If any other college athletes have already made this sort of pitch, I must’ve missed it. This is a guy who’s out here hustling for that first endorsement. But even if he’s the first to go to this length, there’s no doubt others will soon follow, especially if Dean is able to work something out with a company or brand in advance.
Prepare yourselves, folks. This is about to become commonplace, and all the big-named athletes around the country, especially in major sports such as football and basketball, are going to capitalize on it.
