Texans Finally Request Interview With Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy

What Deshaun Watson wants, Deshaun Watson gets. And reports say Watson has not been pleased with the Houston Texans for not giving Kansas Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy a chance to interview for the head coaching vacancy.

Well, guess what? The Texans intend to interview Bieniemy, after all. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Houston has put in a request with Kansas City to speak with the coveted coordinator.

This will be good news to Texans fans everywhere, given the state of the franchise and their supposedly disgruntled star quarterback.

What's behind Watson's Bieniemy wish? Per SI.com's Albert Breer, it started after Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes put in a "strong word" for Bieniemy. Watson then requested that the Texans give Bieniemy a chance. Until the latest report, it seemed like the chance might not happen.

In the meantime, the Texans hired former New England Patriots executive Nick Caserio as general manager. Word was, Watson was iffy on that decision too. But maybe things will now calm down after a disastrous 4-12 season, during which the Texans fired former coach/GM Bill O'Brien.

So far, Bieniemy has reportedly interviewed for every head coaching vacancy, except for the Texans' and the Philadelphia Eagles'. The Eagles just fired head coach Doug Pederson on Monday.

Bieniemy, 51, has been the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator under Andy Reid since 2018. Before that, Bieniemy served as the team’s running backs coach (2013-17). He also worked with the Minnesota Vikings, UCLA and the University of Colorado.
