Drew Brees to Call ND Games, Saints Select Ian Book With No. 133 Pick

The New Orleans Saints have selected former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book with the No. 133 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

In a series of events we didn't necessarily expect, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports former Saints quarterback Drew Brees will be calling Notre Dame's games as Book heads to play for the Saints.

"A version of trading places: former Saints’ QB Drew Brees will be calling Notre Dame games with former Notre Dame QB Ian Book playing for the Saints," Schefter tweeted.

Book is the winningest quarterback in Notre Dame history with 30 games.

The quarterback made a name for himself at Notre Dame by coming off the bench to lead the Fighting Irish to a win over LSU in the Citrus Bowl his redshirt freshman season. Book played in 10 games with one start that season completing 46-of-75 passes for 456 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions, the Saints said in a news release.

"Despite the team's 4-0 start in 2018, Book replaced Brandon Winbush as the starting quarterback for the final nine contests, completing 214-of-314 passes for 2,628 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He started all 13 games as a junior, winning the team's Offensive Player of the Year award," the release reads.

Book took the team to new heights in 2020, leading Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff and garnering third-team All-ACC honors.,
