Drew Brees Starting for Saints Against Chiefs

Drew Brees, who has been out since November 15th after suffering 11 broken ribs and a punctured lung in a hit from the 49ers, will start for the Saints on Sunday against the Chiefs, according to Adam Schefter:

This qualifies as somewhat surprising news given what Saints head coach Sean Payton said just yesterday.

"We haven't ruled anything just because we don't have to," Payton said. "He's got a ways to go still, and he's someone we're not gonna just hurry back and just put him in the game."

The Saints went 3-1 in games started by Taysom Hill in Brees' absence. Hill struggled early in last week's loss against the Eagles.

We know Brees is tough, but we'll have to see how much the lingering effects of the injury combined with rust from time away affect his performance on Sunday.
