Drew Brees Has Five Broken Ribs, Collapsed Lung

If you have New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees on your fantasy team, you may want to sign backups Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill.

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, an MRI revealed Monday that Brees has five broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

He suffered three broken ribs a week ago in a blowout win over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also played in the Saints' win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, when he injured another two ribs and a lung.

Winston started the second half and took the Saints home. They may now rely on him to take them the rest of the way.

Brees has not missed more than one game in a single season for 15 straight years prior to 2019. He will undoubtedly be out longer than that now.

The Saints are 7-2 and look like a true Super Bowl contender. It will be interesting to see if they can stay that way with Jameis, a former No. 1 overall pick.

He certainly has the potential, coming off a season in which he led the NFL in passing yards. But he is also coming off a season in which he led the NFL in interceptions.
