Drew Bledsoe Reveals Who He Wants To Start At QB For Patriots

The New England Patriots appear to have two players battling it out for the starting quarterback job. Yes, there are four signal callers on the roster, but no one really believes Brian Hoyer or Jarrett Stidham have a legitimate chance to win the job.

Instead, it will come down to seasoned veteran Cam Newton or rookie first-round pick Mac Jones.

Former Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe has quite the opinion on the current QB dilemma. He wants to see the 32-year-old, 10-year vet Newton start for the second straight season. Bledsoe made that clear during a recent appearance on the Zach Gelb Show.

“I think they’ve got to let Cam go a little bit, and I would personally really like to see Cam get a full year,” he said, via SB Nation. “Last year, the cupboard was kind of empty up there, and I think everybody recognizes that now. There wasn’t a lot, in terms of weapons for him. They went and got some weapons, and I think it’d be great to see Cam get to get back out there and show why he was an NFL MVP.”

Bledsoe does make a good point. New England's offense was atrocious last season, and they've done considerable work trying to improve it. There are now more weapons in the passing game and reinforcements along the offensive line.

In an ideal scenario, Bledsoe believes Jones should sit for a season.

“It’d also be pretty good for Mac to watch it for a year and then be ready to rock going forward,” he continued. “But I’d love to see Cam get a chance to get out there and get after it and show what he can really do.”

Bledsoe can sympathize with Newton. At one point in time, his late-career run also got bulldozed by a young quarterback -- Tom Brady. Sounds to me like the former NFL star wants to see things work out differently for Newton.

Can't say I blame him.
