USA Today sportswriter Dan Wolken is being destroyed for his tweet Thursday night showing headshots of the two white guys — Chad Weiberg & Mike Holder — investigating possible racism inside the Oklahoma State program, specifically the football program under Mike Gundy.
Cowboys basketball coach Mike Boynton spent Thursday night into Friday morning railing against those implying the investigation conducted by Weiberg, a deputy athletic director, and Holder, wasn’t fair. “Any notion that Mike Holder or Chad Weiberg were ill equipped to review this department and its practices is lazy and irresponsible. Both are high integrity men who do everything in their power to take care of ALL of our athletes. Criticism is acceptable, recklessness is not,” Boynton wrote on Twitter.
Boynton says he was involved in the investigation and added: “There was consultation with many black people, including my involvement. Ask the right questions and you can make your judgments based on the answers to those questions. But to randomly make a judgment without that info is reckless.”
Oklahoma State AD Mike Holder confirms that Mike Gundy has indeed had contract reduced ($1 million pay cut) as reported by @Brett_McMurphy. Says that decision was Gundy's idea. #OKST

Oklahoma State released conclusions Thursday night from its investigation and Holder thinks Gundy is heading in the right direction with changes he’s made:
“Our internal review found that Coach Gundy needs to invest more time in building stronger relationships with his student-athletes,” Holder said in a statement on Thursday night. “However, our review has uncovered no signs or indications of racism.
“After meeting with Coach Gundy, I am confident that he listened to his student-athletes. I believe he is genuine in his commitment to strengthening relationships with his players. I believe this to be a win for everybody. I’m looking forward to seeing the impact this will have on our team.”
That’s not enough for Dan. He’s clearly implying two white guys can’t fairly investigate without adding any further reasoning besides their race.

That’s the problem with the original tweet. There was consultation with many black people, including my involvement. Ask the right questions and you can make your judgments based on the answers to those questions. But to randomly make a judgment without that info is reckless

Still waiting to see what you look like. That profile pic doesn’t help. Seems like a real “burner” account.

In your opinion, what specifically would be acceptable? Also, I’m still waiting on your name. You seem eager to stand up but won’t say who you are? Cool, I’m good on ANY MLK my man. Never been afraid to call a spade a spade. So keep hiding. I’ll be here

It 100% got reviewed. I was a part of the review, as were several of the athletes who expressed concern. What other details do you have?
— Mike Boynton (@thacoachmike) July 3, 2020
I can help (at least try to) answer any questions you have. Where did you find the assertion that someone was told the “racist” experience they had weren’t real? FYI… I’m the Black Head Coach at the University.

Yeah, Dan. The guy on the right hired a terrific young black coach with no head-coaching experience at a power conference school. https://t.co/5ovv9f06QF

I’m biased by the fact that I’ve known Chad Weiberg for 25 yrs-his dad Mick was a tremendous coach and better man.His late brother Jared was my teammate and friend. His is beyond reproach. Coach Holder is a gentleman who I’ve known for 20 yrs, his credentials speak for themselves. https://t.co/JeWwZSXdHt

Yes, Dan “Woke” en- White men, no matter how respected and accomplished, are incapable of conducting a comprehensive review. See yourself out. https://t.co/7fD1y9vSFC

Oklahoma State AD Mike Holder hired Mike Boynton three years ago. Boynton is black. https://t.co/PvHX4Srf3A

– Players say it's been addressed and they are working together
– Administration says it is looking into it after players say they are working together
– Investigation says Gundy is working on personal relationships
– Dan implies racism in investigation based on headshots

I'm not as in the weeds on college hoops as I used to be, but Oklahoma State legit hired a dude I've never heard of
