Dallas Mavericks And GM Donnie Nelson Part Ways After 22 Seasons

Donnie Nelson has long been one of the most respected general managers in the NBA. Nelson and the Dallas Mavericks have had plenty of successful moments during his tenure, but this season was a letdown once the team reached the playoffs.

On Wednesday, the team announced they were parting ways with Nelson, a move that comes after Dallas won their division with a 42-30 record but fell to the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs.

That was enough for owner Mark Cuban to decide to make a move at the GM spot.

"I just want to thank Donnie for his 24 years of service to this organization," Cuban said in a presser put out by the team.

"Donnie has been instrumental to our success and helped bring a championship to Dallas. His hard work, creativity and vision made him a pioneer."

With Nelson running the show, the Mavs made the NBA Finals twice, the Western Conference Finals three times, and the team won their division three times as well.
