Dallas Cowboys Dump Veteran Fullback Jamize Olawale

Fullback is just not a position that gets a lot of love in the NFL these days, and Wednesday that fact came into play yet again, as the Cowboys dumped fullback Jamize Olawale.

Olawale didn't play last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he was planning on returning to the field for Dallas this season.

The 31-year-old had played six seasons with the Raiders before playing the last few years with the Cowboys.

Olawale isn't much of a rusher. In his entire NFL career, he's carried the ball only 55 times for 206 yards and four scores. Overall, he has 96 touches for 644 yards and seven touchdowns.

Despite not playing last season and being dumped this year, Olawale still gets to count $1.2 million in dead money against the team’s 2021 salary cap. However, releasing him allows the team to save $575k towards the cap.

With Olawale now off the roster, the rumor is that the club will give more playing time to former TCU undrafted selection fullback Sewo Olonilua.

Olonilua came to Dallas in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. He was waived on September 5th and was added to the team's practice squad after that.

He was then elevated to the active roster on November 7 and December 19 for Weeks 9 and 15.
