Dabo Swinney Systematically Destroys South Carolina and Steve Spurrier

I don’t know what part of this video is my favorite, but do yourself a favor and head to the two minute mark of Dabo Swinney’s response to a misattributed Steve Spurrier quote. Shortly after the Clemson game @Gamecocksfb tweeted this quote which was attributed to Steve Spurrier, ‘We may not be LSU or Alabama, but we ain’t Clemson, folks.’ There was just one problem, Spurrier didn’t actually say it. The quote surged through Twitter and Gamecock fans reveled in its snarky nature.

It took four days for the quote — actually from Gamecock play-by-play broadcaster Todd Ellis — to be corrected.

During that time Clemson fans stewed. And last night? Well, last night Dabo Swinney systematically laid waste to the South Carolina football program.

The city of Columbia hasn’t trembled like this since the days of William Tecumseh Sherman (or Brad Scott).

Enjoy.

The best thing about this is the slow burn, there’s no rant here. I’m not sure that half of the Republican presidential candidates could make the anti-South Carolina case so cogently.

My two favorite lines — and make no mistake there are many — have to be these:

“There’s a lot of rivalries out there. This is more of a domination. And that’s a fact. My kids’ grandkids won’t live long enough to ever see this really become a rivalry.”

“They ain’t Alabama. They ain’t LSU. And they’re certainly not Clemson. That’s why Carolina’s in Chapel Hill and USC’s in California and the university in this state always has been, always will be Clemson.”

This has convinced me more than ever that there needs to be three portions to the BCS standings: voter polls, computers, and coach debates.

Can you imagine what the ratings would be for a Les Miles debate? Mike Gundy vs. Nick Saban?

This has to happen.
