You Won't Believe How These People Were Rescued Off A Deserted Island

A group of stranded boaters are lucky to be alive today after their boat capsized, and they were rescued on a nearby, deserted island in the Pacific Ocean.

The three men were fishing near Micronesia when their boat began getting rocked by some wave swells that caused them to have to abandon ship and swim towards a nearby island. However, once the boaters got there, their situation became even worse.

Just when they thought they were in the clear, they quickly found out that the island was empty. Real empty. Like. Tom Hanks in Cast Away empty.

FISHERMAN HAD TO SWIM TO A NEARBY ISLAND AFTER BOAT SANK

After walking around the island and realizing they were all alone without any electricity and no way to let rescuers or family members know that they were alive - the three men went back to humankind's roots and adapted using nature's gifts.

They began to gather large palms from nearby trees as well as pieces of bark and just like Hanks did in the movie at one point, they spelled "H E L P" as large as possible.

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do - especially in the survival game, right? They also lived off of coconuts as a search and rescue team was sent out SIX DAYS LATER after the fishermen never returned. But their search came up with no results until on April 7th when a U.S. Navy P-8A jet that was heading to a U.S. military base on Okinawa, Japan randomly spotted the boater's desperate palm leaves message. What's even crazier is that the pilot wasn't even aware that the situation was going on - he just randomly saw the words "Help" and alerted his commander!

THE U.S. NAVY TO THE RESCUE!

U.S. officials say that using the palm trees to spell out the message is the only reason they are still alive today.

"This act of ingenuity was pivotal in guiding rescue efforts directly to their location," Lt. Chelsea Garcia said in a statement. Eventually, the boaters were noticed and a U.S. Coast Guard vessel was able to rescue them over a week after their boat went under.

"They couldn’t believe I’m with the Coast Guard trying to rescue them," one of the rescuers said.

Just an unbelievably wild story. Imagine not having any electricity, being in the middle of a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean and going from sheer helplessness to the ultimate W and being able to live again?

I might need to go grab a drink.

And then pop in some Cast Away on the TV tonight.
