Kevin Costner's 'Yellowstone' Groveling Resembles Clingy Ex-Girlfriend

Kevin Costner just can't seem to let go of "Yellowstone."

Costner helped the neo-Western series from Taylor Sheridan skyrocket to the top of the entertainment world. His performance as John Dutton is among the best of his career, but the show has been consumed by drama.

The star actor now finds himself on the outside looking in with production underway on the final episodes. There's likely no chance he returns, and it's very unclear if Sheridan even wants him back.

Yet, the man responsible for playing the Dutton patriarch just can't stop talking about a return.

Kevin Costner continues to suggest "Yellowstone" return will happen.

"I’ve supported that thing and I’ve loved it. It’s been really important to me. I would love to go back under the right circumstances. I think that all of us want. For me, it really needs to be the right circumstances. Saying there’s a chance, there’s always a chance. I love the thing. You’ve got to be really clear about that," Costner said during a recent appearance on "TODAY" when talking about potentially returning to the series, according to Variety.

His comments are very similar to what he told "CBS Sunday Morning" when discussing a potential return. In that interview, he stated he would, once again, play John Dutton, "If I like the story, where it was going, I would go back."

I like Kevin Costner as an actor. He's an incredible talent, and I'm sure the chaos and fallout with "Yellowstone" isn't all on him. There's almost certainly plenty of blame to go around for why an agreement was never reached for him to reprise his role.

However, this is getting a little bit pathetic at this point. It's like the clingy ex who you broke up with, but they just can't let it go. They keep texting, calling, posting cryptic messages on social media and refusing to move on. It was interesting for a moment or two.

Now, it's become awkward. Kevin Costner should either commit to returning for the final episodes, or he should stop talking about "Yellowstone."

Don't answer questions about the show in interviews, don't bring it up on your own and don't address it any further until a concrete decision has been made.

As a huge fan of the show, I'm sick and tired of this groveling. Costner isn't around for what's being filmed. That's the reality of the situation, and fans shouldn't be given false hope.

Return or don't. At this point, I'm starting to lose interest, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Let me know what you think at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
