White House Finds Itself In Awkward Situation After Question About OJ Simpson

I don't know if you heard this, but OJ Simpson passed away at the age of 76 after a battle with cancer.

Everyone is giving their thoughts on the death of the Juice, and at least one "intrepid" reporter thought, "Hm, I wonder what the White House might have to say about this."

Now, OJ was a lot of things. A Heisman winner, a Hall of Famer, an actor, and an accused double murderer, but he was not a dignitary, head of state, or other type of person that the White House might issue a statement on.

So, that's why you can understand why everyone's favorite White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, may have been caught just a bit off-guard when asked if President Biden had any reaction to OJ's death.

"Was there any reaction to OJ Simpson's death?" The reporter asked. "Do you know if (he and Biden) ever crossed paths, and if so how? When?"

I'm not sure what this reporter was hoping for. I'd have to think any reaction was pretty normal. It's probably a safe assumption that the president didn't fall to his knees in agony or pop a bottle of champagne when the news came across the wire.

But whatever, maybe it would elicit some sort of quote that could get some traction.

In fairness to Jean-Pierre (I can't believe I just typed that), she tried to field this one but made one major, major miscalculation.

"Our thoughts are with his families during this difficult time — obviously with his family and loved ones," Jean-Pierre said. "And I’ll say this, I know that they have asked for some privacy. And so we’re going to respect that. And I’ll just leave it there."

Pretty boilerplate, but notice anything missing? Maybe some mention of the people who were murdered?

Sure, OJ was acquitted, but he was still deemed liable for their deaths in civil court. Seems like a pretty big thing to omit. I mean, he was a hell of a running back, but… y'know.

Like I said, Jean-Pierre probably didn't think the question would show up, and I'm sure she'd like to use a mulligan on that one.
