TV Station Apologizes For Airing Porn During Weather Forecast

A Spokane, Washington TV station has issued an apology after a 13-second porn clip aired on one of the station's weather department TVs during Sunday's 6 p.m. newscast.

‘Those of us here at KREM 2 want to apologize for something that happened in our 6 p.m. newscast tonight,” said the station. “An inappropriate video aired in the first part of the show. We are diligently working to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.'”

According to reporter Daniel Walters, this could just be the tip of KREM's problems. The Spokane Police Department announced it was on the case and the Special Victims Unit would be looking into the incident.

"The incident generated numerous calls from concerned citizens in the city and county," the police department announced Monday morning.

There's precedent here for a massive fine from the FCC. In 2015, a Roanoke, Va. TV station was fined $325,000 for airing a three-second porn clip.

"The station, WDBJ-TV, intended to broadcast a non-explicit video clip of a former adult-film actress as part of a news feature about the woman’s new (clothed) role, as a member of the local volunteer rescue squad. But a corner of the video clip included a couple performing a sex act that is probably best left undescribed here, except to note that the station’s explanation — that the image was too small to be noticed — doesn’t say much for the male actor’s future in the porn business," the Student Press Law Center reported.
