Thursday Night Mowing League 2024: Week 6 -- The First Major Of The Season

Commissioner's report: Fair warning was given that last night was the first ‘Major’ of the 2024 TNML season

The message couldn't have been any clearer. League members were fully aware that last night was pretty much the Masters of the TNML. It was that one night when teams needed to be on top of their game.

Why?

Because this year July 4th falls on a Thursday, which means that night will be out of the mowing schedule. That left last night as the only Thursday during the main summer season where teams needed to leave it all on the turf, you might say.

Let's face it, LOSERS will be mowing tonight and Saturday while the TNML is at the pool, at parties, at beach restaurants suckin' down margs, etc.

Now that that's out of the way, let's take a look at the TNML National Mower of the Year standings were we have significant shakeup due to DNMs (Did Not Mow).

The 2023 TNML National Champion, T.J. Bollmer (aka Timmy2Cuts), was on a work trip and was forced to take a DNM.

However, there was a plot twist.

Mrs. 2Cuts pulled the zero turn out of the garage and mowed on the biggest night of the season and created content. This is like Danny Willett winning The Masters, and, by that, I mean that someone came out of nowhere to get the job done in a Major.

Mrs. 2Cuts' performance is like winning a FedEx Tour event and ROCKETING straight up the standings.

The other big move was out of Scott in California, who was left bloodied and battered, but he got the job done – ON THE BIGGEST NIGHT IN MOWING. Yes, Justin in Augusta, GA put in another strong performance, but he didn't bleed.

Scott has had an interesting season. He's been extremely active with his content and even gave us all a lesson on being an avocado tree owner. His content has kept the league on its toes.

Then there's Texas football coach Colt B., who got shirtless for his press conference. I'm not sure what it is about the Texas coaches, but they sure like to do their press conferences shirtless.

As for my own performance, I have a left rear lug issue that needs corrected before next Thursday. The design of this tire rod assembly on the Toro isn't the best. It's looking like I might need to clear the garage of cars, throw a 6-pack in the garage fridge and tinker on it.

Last night, I just had to survive and advance before going to the park to throw batting practice.

Mowing Reports From Around The United States and Beyond!

- Candler B. in Duluth, GA writes:

Joe- It was a big day for us today. It was the last day of school, and my mowers both got their drivers license. They came straight home from the DMV (Side note- the workers at the DMV acted just like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. What an unnecessarily intense experience!) and got a Thursday afternoon mow in so they could drive themselves over to a buddy’s house to hang out tonight. I don’t know who was more excited: them because they had the freedom of going on their own or me because I didn’t have to take them. What a time to be alive!

Anyway, they got As on the drivers test, and I’ll give the mowing job a B. Not bad for the last day of school. Happy Memorial Day to all!

- Douglas J. in Omaha shares:

This morning at 2:45am we woke up to the tornado sirens going off again in Nebraska.  As we went downstairs to the basement my son said he thought the tree in the front yard had blown over.  I went to take a quick peek and he was right.  I have attached the before and after photos.  I haven't submitted to TNML in quite awhile, but we still mow on Thursdays and yesterday was no exception.

Sorry the yard looks a little messy after the cleanup but thought this one fit multiple categories.  The tree is all cleaned up and laying in my driveway now, the lawn still looks nice even after having half a tree fall on it.  I tried to stack the wood nicely for our wood stacker readers.  And a shoutout to Sun Joe for making an amazing little electric chainsaw that didn't skip a beat as I ripped into that tree this morning.  I don't know if this classifies as doing "Hard Things", but now I have to go get ready for work and finish off this week strong before we celebrate those that really have "Done Hard Things"!  Go Air Force!

Well, after a hectic few weeks of work travel, rain, and general shenanigans, I think I’m finally back on track.  It was a perfect night to get the job done. And tonight’s selection for refreshment…..a Corona Premier!

As I was traveling back home last Thursday, I had a connection at DTW.  In terminal A, near the McDonald’s by the middle section that takes you to terminals B and C was this bad boy. The Za Bot Pizza Robot. I saw this guy trying to figure it out, but I had a tight connection, so I didn’t get to see the end result. I can’t imagine it’s edible.

- Joel H. shares:

Got a nice mow in before the holiday weekend. The red yuccas are blooming, the wife has some flowers planted in the courtyard and got the fountain cleaned. Looking forward to enjoying it with the family.

Greetings from beautiful Eagle,Idaho
Interesting weather here in the mountain west, little cold and wet!  However that’s perfect lawn growing weather and things are Booming!
I’ll move my deck on the trusty Honda next week as summertime is just around the corner and 90+ is close at hand!
God bless all our veterans and men and women who served our great nation!

– Indy Daryl got it in a day early, which means he'll probably have to mow on Sunday. Ouch!

With rain in the forecast every day upcoming, and a championship 9U soccer game tomorrow night, I ran home after the semi-final game an immediately started mowing. Light was amazing and really enjoyed the kiddos playing four square on the drive while I finished up. Hope everyone have a great league night tomorrow!!

– Benny in Yukon, OK shows off his Michigan lawn art:

Good evening. Week 6 is in the books, able to beat the evening storms. The bermuda is on a growth boost with the rain and heat this past week; I might have to do a Sunday/Monday trim if it keeps speeding up the growth.

The #31 Leinenkugel Ego mower took a little extra juice but got the job done. Finally getting a hint of stripes in the bermuda, but still work to be done. The post mow Summer Shandy tasted extra refreshing with the swamp ass weather today!

83 degrees

73% humidity

Cloudy

SW winds at 17 knots

Hope everyone has a great League night and stays safe with all the storms and tornadoes wreaking havoc across the plains.
