Shocking 'Masters Of The Air' Death Explained

It appears the internet has gotten to the bottom of a shocking "Masters of the Air" death.

*WARNING: THERE WILL BE SPOILERS BELOW. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED.*

Generally speaking, I avoid spoilers like the plague when talking about shows and movies. I hate to be the person who ruins anyone's viewing experience.

However, it's been several days since episode four of "Masters of the Air" dropped on Apple TV+, and I now feel like we're in the clear to discuss a major moment:

The shooting of a German spy known as Bob.

"Masters of the Air" shocks viewers with unexpected death.

Viewers of episode four were left speechless when a character identified as Bob was shot at point-blank range in the head by resistance fighters in Belgium.

American bomber crew members William Quinn and Charles Bailey were shot down during the notoriously bloody and violent Regensburg raid, and bailed out to find themselves in Belgium.

After being gathered up by resistance fighters, they meet another alleged American by the name of Bob. The resistance fighters quickly put all three through  interrogation to find out if they are who they say they are.

All three appeared to pass and were walking to a new destination when a fighter pulled out a pistol and shot Bob in the head for being a German spy. How did he know? There's no real answer given in the show, but the resistance fighters make it clear they're never wrong.

Turns out the clue might have been in front of the audience the entire time, but only for a brief second.

The date he put on his interrogation paper.

The YouTube channel HEAVY BREAKDOWNS discovered Bob didn't write his date in the way Americans do, which is MM/DD/YYYY.

Instead, he wrote in day/month/year. It's flashed on the screen for only a brief second. Maybe even less than a second, but it appears to be the clue millions of fans have been looking for.

"Masters of the Air" continues to be excellent.

I can't stress enough how you should all be watching "Masters of the Air" if you haven't already started. It tells the story of American bomber crews hammering the Germans, and it's bone-chilling.

The horrors those men faced were nothing short of pure nightmare fuel. They flew deep into enemy territory, hammering targets on the ground as they battled German fighters and flak.

Casualties were high and many viewed death as inevitable.

"Masters of the Air" perfectly brings those horrors and ominous outlook of the situation to life with a great cast and awesome story-telling.

It also leaves little clues like the death of Bob that you simply don't catch the first time around. It's also awesome to finally see bomber crews get the respect and attention they deserve.

As I've said before, I had a family member who was on a bomber crew in Europe in WWII, and he earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses. He also survived a horrific mission over Austria that resulted in his plane going down in Yugoslavia.
