Instagram Model Has Her Sentence For Breaking Her Former Colombian Politician Mom Out Of Prison Nearly Doubled

Colombian Instagram model Aida Victoria Merlano Manzanero, aka Aida Victoria, was sentenced to more than seven years of house arrest in 2022.  She was found guilty of assisting in her disgraced politician mother, Merlano Rebolledo's prison escape back in 2019.

The judge obviously understood the importance of not putting the social media influencer behind bars.  Her millions of followers, which have since grown to more than 5.5 million, had nothing to do with the crime, therefore they shouldn't be punished.

Unfortunately, Aida Victoria decided to try her luck through the appeal process.  The appeal reached Colombia's Supreme Court, and rather than reduce her sentence they decided to increase it.  On top of that, they apparently don't respect the content game.

On Thursday afternoon, the court ruled that the Instagram model must serve a 13-year prison sentence without the possibility of house arrest.  Talk about a turn of events for the popular model.

Aida Victoria took to social media to address the latest development as well as reports that the Colombian Prosecutor's Office had issued an order for her immediate arrest.

"This is not true, they did not give me an arrest warrant.  The first instance judge, although he convicted me, allowed me to defend myself in freedom until my sentence was final and the Prosecutor's Office did not appeal, which is why the court allowed, despite sentencing me to 166 months in prison, that I continue with the process released until the appeal is answered," she said.  "We continue to believe in justice and we are going to fight until the end."

There Are No Winners If Aida Victoria Ends Up Behind Bars

Aida Victoria remains positive despite the setback and says she plans to keep fighting.  She said,"As long as there is life, there is hope.  That's life, of good moments that challenge us and make us grow.  I know that I am not the only one dealing with difficult things, but if we are going to fall, let it be by fighting."

She continued, "I know it seems absurd (I still don't believe it) but the court's sentence was 13 years in prison without the right to a home in prison.  It is an unjust sentence, but they allowed me to be free until the court decides."

The court needs to do the right thing here.  Her mom was recaptured.  No harm, no foul here.  There's no reason to punish her millions of followers if you don't have to.  Restore the people's faith in the court system.  You can't almost double her sentence.  There's no justice in that.
