Instagram Legend Hilde Osland Takes Us Into The Weekend, Ladies Slap Fight In Cincy & Brees Has Ear Hair Trimmed
I heard from many of you on the topic of aging parents, losing parents and how you spend special time with your fathers
As someone who doesn't want to dwell on the topic of my dad and what he's going through -- see Thursday's post to get caught up -- let's get down to business here and then get back to living life. Texas A&M fan Chris B., who always puts things in perspective, suggested catching a random Michigan high school football game next week on our golf adventure in order to keep our football trip streak alive in its own way.
I absolutely LOVE this idea. Just pop into a random game in a random town and take it in. It's still football, it's still kids playing their hearts out and high school bands playing fight songs. Now I need to take a look at the northern Michigan high school football schedule and see who's playing at home.
"Mine passed away when I was 22, many years before I met my wife & we had kids, so try to take a glass is half full perspective as much as you can... count your blessings... and savor all the time you & your kids have with him," Chris wrote.
Well put.
As for those messages that came in yesterday, I have to say, once again, the Screencaps community is undefeated. There were some deep messages from readers sharing the loss of their fathers and the circumstances. I have a deep respect for those of you who are willing to share those messages with me, and it speaks to the trust we've built around here.
I'm going to let those messages rest. Just know that I read all of them and I thank you.
• Now, let's move on to INFLATION! Mark W. says now is the time to stock up on jeans and underwear. Cotton futures are up and the global supply is reportedly tightening.
Mark writes:
Combined with rising food and energy costs, the average American is going to face (or already is facing) some serious strains on their income.
• Higher priced chicken wings and natural gas on the rise are definitely on my mind. Speaking of the higher food topic, I noticed a guy in the neighborhood is putting on massive covered patio with a TV box enclosure to watch games. I don't know the guy, but I have to assume he's like the majority of us who will just make our own food and drink beer out of the garage fridge.
Good luck to the Buffalo Wild Wings of the world, as people are flat out exhausted from dropping $100 to go grab some wings and suck down drafts.
• Darren in McDonough, GA writes on the topic of father-son football trips:
Tenn @ UF on Saturday. Swung by St Augustine and grabbed my brother-in-law and his son for Cardinals @ Jaguars on Sunday.
All the best to your father and hoping for a quick recovery.
• Are you looking to buy a ski home? Mike T. in Idaho sent along a report by the Wall Street Journal on how people are being drawn to the state due to smaller resorts and the laid-back vibe. Nobody has done more around here for the state of Idaho than Mike T. I don't know how many flights it would take me to get to Idaho from Detroit where I fly out of -- there's probably a direct to Boise -- but Mike is selling me on the state by the day, and I might have no choice but to put it on the travel list.
I'm not into skiing, but something tells me having a beer on Mike's patio or some ski slope patio wouldn't be too bad of a day.
• By the way, speaking of drinks, Natural Light sent me a sample pack of its new flavored vodka. My neighbors handled the taste testing without me and said it wasn't their favorite drink in the world.
Here's a topic for the weekend: What's the best new drink out there? I'll gladly take non-alcoholic recommendations. Fire away. Yes, I understand many of you are now all about the bourbons and the scotches. Let's pretend you're going to a football gathering. What's on the drink menu?
