Good News, Experts Say Having Sex Counts As A Workout
Cancel your gym memberships, because there's no need to venture out of your home for a workout. No, I'm not talking about buying a bunch of home gym workout equipment. It turns out you can get in a solid workout from the comfort of your own bed.
A recent survey conducted by Peloton revealed that 72% of Americans believe that sex is a workout. What is wrong with the other 28%? Am I right?
Thankfully, the so-called experts agree with the majority on this one. Sex expert Jaimee Bell told the NY Post, "Great sex is wonderful for your well being, whether you’re single or in a relationship. It helps us connect with our bodies and brings us into the present."
That's not all a good cardio session in the bedroom can do for you. Bell added, "It can also reduce stress, improve sleep quality, and benefit our overall mood. In a relationship, sex boosts emotional bonding, enhances communication, and deepens trust."
If you're not yet sold on the idea of replacing workouts with sex, as I am, don't worry we've got more expert testimony on the subject to get through. Emily Morse, a sex expert who just so happens to host the #1 relationship podcast, Sex with Emily - genius name by the way - had this to add.
She said, "There’s variation, of course, between a five-minute quickie and vigorous, athletic sex that lasts for hours. Sex is different for each person, every single time."
There Are Some Types Of Workouts That Are Better Than Others
I don't know about you, but my notebook is filling up fast with all of these insights into the study of sex as a workout. Now here, seriously, is where you're going to want to write a few things down. If your goal is to burn a few extra calories, that is.
There are a few positions that can help the maximize the calorie burn, according to a study by the luxury sex toy company Lelo. The Butter Churner, Standing, and The Kneeling Wheelbarrow all sound like a lot of work and on average burn more calories.
Hand up, I haven't seen the sex toy company's work on how they determined these were the calorie burning moves, but I trust they know a little something on the topic.
If you come away with anything from this, it should be, which Morse pointed out, "Sex is a pillar of personal wellness, just like good sleep and nutrition."
You hear that? A pillar of personal wellness. That sounds important and, if done properly, it can replace a workout.
