Gatorade, Lucky Charms, Skittles, Other Snacks Could Be Banned Under New Laws

New laws could ban certain sugary sweets such as Gatorade, Lucky Charms and M&Ms due to potential cancer-causing chemicals.

The issue revolves around the fact that some of the sugary products also contain possible carcinogens - which has led to Europe already issuing a ban on such things as red dye No. 3, and potassium bromate. Some of the carcinogens are ones that can also be found in things like rat poison as well as contributing factors for thyroid cancer and more.

Suddenly, it gives a whole different meaning to Gatorade's slogan, "Is it in you?"

STATES COMING AFTER CANDY AND SNACKS

Last year, California passed what became known as the "Skittles bill," which beginning in 2027 will ban the popular candy and other products that contain a handful of various food chemicals and vegetable oils deemed dangerous to one's health. Skittles has already removed the questionable ingredients from their overseas distribution, but not here in the United States, due to the FDA having different and more lenient, safety guidelines.

This past week, however, multiple states such as New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania legislators proposed their own bills that would not only include what California's does but even more. New York's proposed bill would include the ban of four additional chemicals that can be found in certain bread products found in sugary pastries. Pennsylvania and Missouri are proposing a ban on Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and other additives that are linked to cancer-causing benzene.

COULD WE REALLY NOT HAVE GATORADE?

As of right now, the FDA hasn't gotten involved and this remains a state by state issue. But never say never - the ball seems to be rolling for more states to get on board. We are talking about the government here, and we know how much they love to intervene and make our lives that much more difficult. But could they really step in and come after our delicious snacks?

The answer is, OF COURSE they would!

Whether it's ruining school lunches by filling them with absolutely horrid-looking meals or going after your lawnmowers and SUVs, politicians are going to politic and legislate as far as they can possibly go.

Words of advice - start cherishing your Halloween candy that much more, because who knows how long you'll be able to enjoy it!
