What a week it's been...let's have a smooth Screencaps before I go get an oil change and duck out early today
Thank you to all of you who acted as spotters as I made my debut on the Clay & Buck Show. I'm also being told that Jason Whitlock had "nothing but professional things" to say on his podcast about my Penn swimming work. I still need to listen to that. There hasn't been much free time this week. I'll say this, no matter what the emotional blue checkmarks say about Whitlock on social media, receiving a compliment from a wordsmith the caliber of that guy is definitely a feather in the cap.
A second swimmer stepped forward Wednesday night to explain how things transpired last weekend in Akron where Lia Thomas was smashing records. If you have daughters in sports, this quote describing Penn swimmers in tears on the pool deck in Akron should rattle you.
“They feel so discouraged because no matter how much work they put in it, they’re going to lose. Usually, they can get behind the blocks and know they out-trained all their competitors and they’re going to win and give it all they’ve got.”
I'm going to let the two posts this week speak for themselves and let you guys figure out how you want to digest it. Yes, it's not lost on me that the deep-thinking stuff isn't my typical fare, but I was approached by the first Penn swimmer, who trusted me, and off we went.

Moving along...Trey T. has a very important question he wants to be answered:

Odd question. Why do you call your column “Screencaps”? I have never seen any such label used as the name. It’s ALWAYS listed as “Pop Culture”.
Two things: First, why is this column called Screencaps?
Well, back in the day when this column was evolving in 2011 or 2012 at BustedCoverage.com -- my former baby that I started with $10 and sold off to a NYC company -- we used to take photos of stupid stuff we'd see on TV and then tweet it out. It was the screen capture generation.
Peter Burns, the SEC Network host, was writing for me at that point in his career. He was trying to raise his profile, and BC had a pretty good size national footprint at the time. Peter came up with the idea for the original version of Screencaps where he'd write the column, embed some safe-for-work photos and the rest is history.
As for Trey's second question about Screencaps being categorized under 'Pop Culture,' that's on me. I need to get OutKick T-shirt Marketing Manager Maxx (yes with two Xs) on the horn to get a Morning Screencaps category that you guys can visit to get caught up on posts you might've missed.
And I haven't forgotten about forming an email list where I can send out bonus material for the Screencaps community.

TNML Commissar Kinsey, as usual another outstanding screencaps this AM as well as the article on the Penn transgender swimmer. Your sporting event question was timed perfectly. I leave this afternoon for New Jersey and my first (and probably only) Army vs Navy football game.
A good friend has a son who is a cadet and is a senior this year at West Point. He has been trying to get me up to a game for 4 years now and it never worked out. I thought we might make it for the Miami of Ohio game back in September but that fell through. Instead, he asked us (my youngest son) to come to this game and roll up to West Point on Sunday for a campus tour.
Looking forward to all of the pageantry, history and revelry involved and Gameday will be there as well. This has bucket list written all over it. Maybe I can submit a report afterward.

Uh, I'll be offended if Bill doesn't share his emotions after attending Army-Navy. I've been very fortunate to attend most of the major sporting events in the United States, but this one is firmly in the top three for me along with the Masters. I'm not even sure off the top of my head what No. 3 is.
I don't know if Bill will be able to write down the emotions in his head as he watches these teams take the field, but I hope he'll try.

Morning Jose,
Love reading the caps every morning, great content! I'll never forget the first time I walked into Yankee Stadium with my dad in the late '80s for my first Yankees game, you come out of the concourse, and there is a slight incline leading to the seats, the smell and sight of The House That Ruth built is stamped in my memory, have no clue who they played or who won the game, just absolutely amazing!
As far as moments at events go, watching Reggie Miller hit the game-winning shot against the Bulls in the 98 ECF was a moment i will never forget, there was not cheering, just a burst of white noise in Market Square Arena, and then the silence as MJ's shot was in the air, i know there was a lot of puckering going on in Indy as that ball rimmed out.

I'll concur with Drew. I had a similar experience at Yankees Stadium in 2001. It felt out of body as the ramp led out to blue skies and the massive structure. I had the same reaction the first time I saw Wrigley Field back in the early 1990s. After growing up going to Riverfront Stadium, walking up the stairs and seeing home plate for the first time was euphoric. Screw drugs. Walk up the stairs at Wrigley on a bright sunny day.

Chad asked about the best sporting event attended in person. Seems like crazy timing because I was thinking about mine early in the day and just heard very sad news related to it. The best sporting event I went to was the Denver Broncos vs the Pittsburgh Steelers wild card playoff game in 2012 with my dad. Watching Tebow to Demaryius Thomas in OT to win was incredible.
As a Colorado native and a die-hard Broncos fan (dad had season tickets from 1988 to 2013) this will always be a very special memory for me. I just felt the need to share in memory of DT. Will always be missed by Broncos County. Appreciate the outlet to share this!

Joe, pretty sure you are done with this topic in Screencaps, but I have to echo Ben S. about Pinehurst and specifically Tobacco Road.
I lived in Raleigh for 15 years and was lucky enough to hook up with a bunch of really good golfers. We would play Pinehurst courses (there are many great ones in Pinehurst not affiliated with the resort) but we always stopped at Tobacco Road either on the way down or the way back.
One of these good golfers with first-hand knowledge said Tobacco Road is a “poor” mans Pine Valley. Seriously.
• One more thing on fart fans from Chris B. down in Texas:
I dunno about a fart fan needing to play music to me via bluetooth, I am usually looking at my phone on the can and don't personally need tunes, but to each their own! I will however pass on a related recommendation... in all my bathrooms I have these switches installed on the fart fans:
That way after you're done you can walk away and have it keep doing its job for 5 or 10 mins, and you don't have to come back to turn it off.

• That should about do it. I have to say I'm a little disappointed that the Thursday night grillmasters failed to send me photos of their food. SMH, guys!
Let's go out there and have a big weekend. My wife and I are taking the kids to an indoor waterpark up in Michigan to blow off steam. I'm hoping to ease my way into a casual beer and relax. No fart fan installations for me this weekend.
