Bride Swaps Out Groom Just A Couple Of Months Before Her Wedding, Lives Happily Ever After With Replacement

It's important for your sanity during the planning of a wedding to remain flexible.  Some venues might not be available on the date you're trying to close the deal.

There could even be some compromises needed to make everything come together.  An item on the list that usually doesn't require flexibility and compromise is the groom.  The groom is usually set in stone.

The key word there is usually.  There are apparently incidents where the dress, the venue, and most everything remains the same except for the groom.  This is one such example of a bride who swapped out her groom not long before walking down the aisle.

It sounds insane, but according to one of the bridesmaids, the bride and her new groom lived happily ever after.  The story of the "last-minute change of groom" happened many years ago, but is a story the bridesmaid felt the need to tell on Reddit.

"I at that time, 23, had a group of college friends, and one of them, let's call her Sarah, 23, was that girl who has been with her boyfriend since high school.  We were a close group of friends and the boyfriend, let's call him John, 26, was always there," the bridesmaid explained.

"We were all at the same school, but he was ahead of us by 2 years.  There were more girls in our group, a total of 7 and we were inseparable, studying, traveling and partying together, and Sarah and John were always there."

After college, the bridesmaid moved to another city while her friends all stayed close to one another.  It was before smartphones, so communication wasn't in the palm of your hands as it is today.

Nonetheless, the group got together for a Christmas lunch six months after graduation.  During lunch, Sarah told her friends that she had got a new job, was engaged to John, and was looking for a new house.

The wedding was planned for March and all the friends were told they needed to get ready because they would be her bridesmaids.  This bridesmaid said, "We were all so happy as they were going to be the first one of all our friends to get married."

There Were Signs Of Trouble Before The Big Day

By February, the bridesmaid hadn't yet received an invitation to Sarah's wedding.  So she reached out to a friend and was told that "the bride has been a little messy with the organization."  She had no idea just how messy.

The bride-to-be was having issues deciding on the color for the bridesmaids' dresses.  There wouldn't be any invitations sent out, and a bachelorette party was off the table.  It seemed odd, but the bridesmaid was told they were cutting those items to save money.

"I got the address and time for the church and the party.  I found it super weird, and I felt sad that this was my first wedding as a bridesmaid, and it turned out to be a very boring experience," she continued.

"I just thought the couple was paying for a house and all the wedding expenses so it made some sense and they wanted to keep it low-key."

It wasn't until the bridesmaid arrived at the church for the wedding that she found out there was a different groom.  The maid of honor pulled her to the side and explained that they all needed to be there for the bride because the groom doesn't know any of her family or friends.

That set off alarm bells.  Why would John, who had been with Sarah since high school, not know any of her family and friends?  Because John was no longer in the picture and the bride was marrying a guy, 23, named Michael.

As you would expect, this last minute piece of information made for an awkward wedding ceremony and reception for everyone.  It was at the reception, when the drinks started flowing, that the maid of honor finally told all the bridesmaids what had happened.

The Truth About The Groom Swap Eventually Came Out

Sarah met Micheal at her new job in August.  They had started a relationship behind John's back and were together when she got engaged to John.  At the end of January, after she found out that she was pregnant with Michael's baby, she called off the engagement.

Rather than hit the reset button on the wedding she was already planning, Sarah didn't tell anyone for another month and scrambled to swap out the groom while keeping as much as she could the same.

"Sarah's parents found out about Michael a month before the wedding and that she was pregnant a week before the wedding, and that is why there was no bachelorette party, as she was feeling sick and tired all the time," the bridesmaid added.

"Sarah did not tell anyone, and she kept the dress, the party venue, and everything as if nothing was going to change, and she was about to marry John."

As nutty as all of that sounds, the bridesmaid says that Sarah and Michael are still married to this day and now have five children.

"At the end, we all think Sarah made the best decision, and it is clear she is very, very happy with her life, but the way she handled the change was beyond crazy, and I still remember it as the weirdest wedding I have ever attended."

There you have it.  You can replace a groom at the last minute, power through with the wedding, and everything can still work out in the end.
