Cubs Star Willson Contreras On Radar Of Joe Maddon, Angels

Videos by OutKick

The Los Angeles Angels are trying to find some fire behind the plate, and perhaps Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is the answer.

Contreras has drawn trade interest from the Angels, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

At this point, it’s little more than a rumor, but it could have some real legs. Former Cubs manager Joe Maddon is now the manager of the Angels, and he is pretty familiar with Contreras.

Whether the Cubs would be willing to part with the two-time All-Star is another matter entirely. But as almost every general manager in every sport believes, anyone can be acquired for the right price.

“No deal appears close, but Contreras, 28, would be an excellent fit for the Angels, whose top returning catcher, Max Stassi, might miss the start of the season while recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip,” Rosenthal wrote.

Contreras holds the rare distinction of blasting a home run in his very first major league at-bat. It appears the Angels may now be swinging for the fences to try to bring him to LA.
