Cowboys Reportedly Interested In Russell Okung

With less than a month till the NFL season opens, the Dallas Cowboys are still looking to improve their roster, and one player who could add some beef to their offensive line is veteran OT Russell Okung.

Okung was with the Carolina Panthers last season and has also been with the Seattle Seahawks (2010-2015), Denver Broncos (2016) and the Los Angeles Chargers (2017–2019).

SB Nation’s Brian Martin reports that Dallas is simply "waiting for the right situation" before they offer Okung a deal.

Okung could come in and back up Tyron Smith and La’el Collins, adding some much needed depth to the line this upcoming season.

“Although his play has declined over the past few seasons mostly due to injuries, Russell Okung could step in and be an immediate upgrade as the Cowboys swing tackle for the 2021 season,” Martin stated on Monday.

“He’s missed 19 games over the past two seasons and was only able to start seven last year with the Carolina Panthers. His health is a pretty big red flag, however, it’s one worth taking a chance on as a backup if he’s willing to play that role.”

Okung has the experience to help out the Cowboys' line. He has 131 starts under his belt, he's a two-time Pro Bowl lineman, and he also won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks back in February of 2014.
