Cowboys Can Get An Immediate Impact Player At No. 10 -- And It Should Be On Defense

Last season, the Dallas Cowboys were simply awful on defense, averaging a back-breaking 29.6 points per game. They finished the 2020 season 6-10 and missed the postseason.

The team has a chance to fix some of that on Thursday when the NFL draft takes place in Cleveland.

Dallas is picking 10th overall, which gives them an excellent chance to get a big impact player.

One team official who thinks the Cowboys are going to bounce back right away is owner Jerry Jones.

Jones knows that the team's defense needs to get back to form. He also feels that with the 10th pick, the team can get an impact player who can help the defense on Day One.

"(We got a) good chance to have a top defensive player -- the top, one of top -- be there at 10," he said, via Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News.

With the way the draft sets up this year, the Cowboys could be the first team to pick a defensive player, which means they could get a top defensive talent.

The defensive backfield for the Cowboys could REALLY use some help, and one player they have their eye on is Alabama's Patrick Surtain II. Another player that has been mentioned quite a bit is South Carolina's Jaycee Horn.

Jones said Tuesday it was "not legitimate" to say he's infatuated with Florida tight end Kyle Pitts. "We're not going to spend inordinate value (to trade up for Pitts)," he said, per Gehlken.

After I watched the Cowboys falter so often on defense in 2020, there's no way you can convince me that they WON'T go defense in Round One.

We shall see Thursday how it plays out - but if Surtain II or Horn are on the board at 10, they could be holding up a Cowboys jersey with their name on it.
