COVID Means Dungeons And Dragons Has Biggest Year Ever

You would think Dungeons & Dragons would have died about the same time the Internet came along. And if not then, then when iPhones and mobile apps made their way to the world.

But not even close.

Instead, the longtime board game rebounded in a big way in 2020, with sales increasing by a whopping 33% in the past year, as reported by CNBC.

“As the coronavirus spread last year, people around the world were forced inside and apart from each other. For many Dungeons & Dragons players, that meant putting a stop to their regularly scheduled in-person tabletop sessions,” CNBC wrote.

That did nothing to dampen overall interest in the game. In fact, it’s only been increasing.

“With vaccination rates rising, an end to the pandemic appears to be in sight. The D&D brand is emerging in a strong position,” CNBC added. “Stalwart fans used lockdown to teach friends and family how to play, ushering in a new cohort of dice-rolling enthusiasts that will transition from socially distanced online chatrooms to crowded tables in the coming year.”

For D&D players, whether hero or scoundrel, it always comes down to a roll of the dice. But when it comes to sales and interest, everything is based on other numbers. And recently, everything is looking up.
