Could Veteran CB Richard Sherman Wind Up Playing In The Steel City In 2021?

Cornerback Richard Sherman remains one of the most outspoken players in the National Football League.

Sherman has shown in the past that every time he's counted out, he rises to the occasion and plays over and above what many people expect.

The 33-year-old has been picked to be in the Pro Bowl five times and was also voted All-Pro five times, including three times to the first team.

He led the NFL in interceptions in 2013 when he also helped the Seahawks win their first Super Bowl as they took apart future Hall of Fame QB Payton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

Sherman has bounced around some as well though, playing for the 49ers the last few seasons. He's a free agent this offseason, and many think that it's time for the veteran to make an impact on another team's roster.

Could that team be the defending AFC North champion Pittsburgh Steelers?

There is no doubt that the Steelers, both on offense and defense, faltered down the stretch in 2020. The team lost four of their last five regular season affairs and then were embarrassed 48-37 by the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wild Card game at Heinz Field.

The Steelers also lost cornerback Steve Nelson this offseason after he asked for his release and the team granted his wish. So the team may be on the lookout for a replacement.

Even if they DO get Sherman somehow, they can't just plug him in as a starter at cornerback. However, his depth and experience would very much help.

What Sherman would charge the Steelers to make the move to the 412 is anyone's guess. He's a player who has been around for a number of years, and at the end of the day, he's not going anywhere cheap, Pittsburgh included.

We will see as free agency continues where Sherman winds up. It'll be with a team that needs him, and one that could end up as a contender in the NFL in 2021 and beyond.
