Could The Saints Lose Another Coordinator For Head Coaching Promotion?

The New Orleans Saints suffered a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. Now, they might suffer another loss, this time with their defensive coordinator.

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, Dennis Allen is set to interview for the head coaching job with the Philadelphia Eagles. Around The NFL tweeted out that news on Wednesday morning.

This could be a second chance for Allen. He joined the Oakland Raiders as head coach back in 2012, but then led the team to an 8-28 record. He didn't even make it to the halfway point of his third season.

In the last several years as a coordinator, however, the 48-year-old has grown. Though the Saints' defense has been a major liability in the past, it has been solid in recent seasons. Just take the last three games against the Buccaneers for example.

Those two touchdowns in the playoff game came after big turnovers by Tampa Bay's defense. The six-time Super Bowl champ averaged only 215.7 yards against New Orleans with four passing touchdowns and five turnovers. In other words, the Saints' defense prevented Brady from looking like Brady.

That's the type of impact that Allen has brought to this defense.

Is he the right fit in Philadelphia? Maybe, maybe not. It's not an overly appealing job right now, so at least shoring up that side of the football could be beneficial.

It would certainly be a big blow to Sean Payton and the Saints.
