College Football Coaches Poll Revealed, Alabama Once Again Tops Rankings

The USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday, and the Alabama Crimson Tide are once again sitting at No. 1 after winning their sixth national title under Nick Saban.

Of the 65 first-place votes cast, Alabama got 63 while Oklahoma took the other two. Oddly enough, that still didn’t position the Sooners to lock up the No. 2 spot. Instead, they checked in at No. 3 behind Clemson.

Here are the entire top 25 rankings:

  1. Alabama Crimson Tide
  2. Clemson Tigers
  3. Oklahoma Sooners
  4. Ohio State Buckeyes
  5. Georgia Bulldogs
  6. Texas A&M Aggies
  7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  8. Iowa State Cyclones
  9. North Carolina Tar Heels
  10. Cincinnati Bearcats
  11. Florida Gators
  12. Oregon Ducks
  13. LSU Tigers
  14. USC Trojans
  15. Wisconsin Badgers
  16. Miami Hurricanes
  17. Indiana Hoosiers
  18. Iowa Hawkeyes
  19. Texas Longhorns
  20. Penn State Nittany Lions
  21. Washington Huskies
  22. Oklahoma State Cowboys
  23. Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns
  24. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
  25. Ole Miss Rebels

There were six total SEC teams ranked in the first edition of the top 25, with five of them sitting up there at No. 13 or better. Of those six teams, four of them hail from the SEC West, which is expected to be a deeper division across the board than the East.

Based on this poll, we are getting a No. 2 Clemson versus No. 5 Georgia matchup in Week 1. We’ll also get to see top-ranked Alabama play No. 16 Miami in Atlanta as well. We are so close to college football season, folks.

  1. Hey shouldn’t Vandy, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Miss State, South Carolina and Missouri also be ranked? That way when all the teams lose a game or two it won’t look so bad on the resume. Come on man, get with the program coaches.

  2. Haha amen Dennis. The SEC isn’t faking it lol. I was thinking it was a little sparse for the SEC in all honesty. I would probably have to add an Auburn, Mizzou and/or Kentucky in there to bring us back to reality. If my Vols go 6-6 I’ll celebrate.
