Clay: Suddenly, Jaguars Worthy Of Our Attention

Count OutKick’s Clay Travis among the believers in Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars. And if not a believer, at least among those who think the hiring of Meyer will add some pizzazz to a franchise desperately in need of some.

That’s not only because of the hiring of Meyer — widely considered one of college football’s best coaches over the past dozen or so years after leading Florida and Ohio State to national championships.

The Jaguars also just happen to own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Everyone knows they’re taking Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. (Though Meyer refused to actually come out and say that.)

Meyer? Lawrence? Excitement about the NFL in Jacksonville? All of it very well could be the case. See what Clay has to say in the video below.

  1. you know, I’m trying to figure out why Urban Meyer is a good head coach if he isn’t calling his own plays? Haven’t we seen the Scott Linehan experience before in the NFL? Is Urban Meyer just such a great leader that he just stands there and wins games accordingly? Seems like the guy is crossing NFL off his “bucket list” while getting another $40M no matter what his results become, with much less stress than constant recruiting and admin bullshit.

I would be all in for giving the guy a chance as his offense innovated college football … but if he’s not the guy calling plays, why am I supposed to care? Seems like dumpster fire to me. For the record, I think this is the best job opening this year, so if Lawrence truly is great, I’m sure Urban will get the credit. I’m a big Shahid Kahn fan, so I wish them the best.
