Chris Godwin Initially Wasn't Thrilled to Give Number to Tom Brady

In late March, Bucs receiver Chris Godwin had a succinct reason for giving his no. 12 to Tom Brady: "He's the GOAT." Now Godwin has admitted that it was a sacrifice on his end.

"I've been (wearing No. 12) since high school and it means a lot to me," Godwin told "The Checkdown" during a Twitter live stream Wednesday (via NBC Sports Boston). "At first it bothered me a little bit; it was kind of getting at me because it's part of my identity. But when the GOAT comes calling you kind of concede to him."

Godwin added that he hopes he gets a ring or two or three out of the deal.

Last season, Godwin had 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns.
