Chiefs Hang on to Clinch AFC One-Seed As Falcons Falcon

The Kansas City Chiefs escaped against the Atlanta Falcons today, winning 17-14 after the Atlanta Falcons came up with yet another way to lose a game they should have won.

First, Falcons defensive back AJ Terrell dropped an interception that would have effectively clinched a victory. Patrick Mahomes hit Demarcus Robinson for a touchdown on the next play to give Kansas City the lead.

Then, Matt Ryan and the Falcons marched the ball down the field for a field goal attempt that would have forced overtime, but Younghoe Koo pushed a 39-yard field goal wide and the Chiefs escaped.

For weeks now, the Chiefs have been pulling out games where they looked lackadaisical for stretches. However, their talent has allowed them to get away with it for the time being, and the defending Super Bowl champions have clinched the no. 1 seed and the only first round bye in the AFC.
