Chiefs Assistant Britt Reid Won't Travel To Super Bowl

Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid will not be traveling with the team to Tampa Bay for Super Bowl LV after he was involved in a Thursday evening car accident.

Reid is the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and the team's linebackers coach. Britt Reid admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident, which involved two children, per reports. One of them, a 5-year old, suffered life-threatening injuries.

The accident reportedly happened on Interstate 435 near the Chiefs' practice facility, Thursday at around 9 p.m. "Reid reportedly told police that the pickup truck he was driving hit a car that had pulled over after running out of gas, as well as another vehicle that had come to assist that vehicle," per Pro Football Talk. "The two children were in the second vehicle."

Police said they could smell alcohol on Reid's breath and that his eyes were bloodshot. Reid pleaded guilty to a DUI in 2008.

“The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving outside linebackers coach Britt Reid,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”
