Chad Johnson’s All-In On Washington’s Receivers

Videos by OutKick

Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson’s trash talk career was nearly as impressive as his receiving career. Now retired, he’s still bumping his gums, or in this case, his thumbs. Johnson recently took to Twitter to pump up Washington’s receivers, and he’s not monkeying around. He envisions the starting duo going “bananas” this fall, and he’s making sure everyone keeps the receipts.

Johnson’s tweet paints the trio of Terry McLaurin, free agent acquisition Curtis Samuel and quarterback addition Ryan Fitzpatrick as a match made in heaven. He lauds Fitzpatrick’s aggressive style of play, while adding that McLaurin and Samuel have the skills to make Fitz Magic’s job easier.

His expectations may be justified. McLaurin has already established himself as one of the league’s premier wide receivers. He’s coming off a 2020 season in which he caught 87 passes for four touchdowns and more than 1,000 yards, despite inconsistent play from Washington’s signal callers.

Samuel, who joins Washington after four seasons with the Panthers, is one of the most explosive offensive weapons in the NFL. The jack of all trades has 19 career touchdowns and has been used as a receiver, running back and returner.

Both playmakers should have plenty of opportunities to produce at a Chad Johnson-like level (he of six Pro Bowls) with Fitzpatrick tossing the pigskin. He’s thrown for close to 35,000 yards in his career.

“The biggest thing with his offense, is we’re able to spread the ball around to everybody and get everybody involved. It’s going to be a tough offense to defend just because of all the pieces we have,” Fitzpatrick said via NBCSportsWashington.com.

Washington opens training camp July 27th.
