Just over two weeks after Carl Nassib announced that he’s gay, support for the Raiders defensive end continues to pour in. The latest big-name person to offer his acceptance is Derek Carr, the team’s quarterback. Not all of their Las Vegas teammates agree with Nassib’s lifestyle, which has prompted some to raise questions, but the overall team support is unwavering.
“Our team has been all for having his back. That doesn’t mean everyone agrees with the lifestyle or agrees with that. We live in a country where nowadays people think if you don’t agree then you can’t love one another and have their back, and that is the farthest thing from the truth,” said Carr during an appearance on the Chris Collinsworth podcast featuring Richard Sherman.
Carr took some heat initially for not supporting Nassib on social media in the hours and days following his announcement. Because as we all know, if you don’t post it on social media it never really happened! The quarterback explained to Collinsworth and Sherman that he did reach out to Nassib privately to offer support: “I said, ‘Carl, I love you, bro.’ And I said, ‘You know I love you and I got your back, no matter what. You’re my brother. And all I want to do is win a Super Bowl with you.’ ”
He reiterated that even those teammates who have raised questions are backing Nassib: “There are some guys that have raised a question or two, but they all say, without a doubt, ‘We have his back and he’s our brother. So if you want to mess with him, you have to go through us.'”
Nassib is the first active NFL player to come out as gay.
Such a non-story, I’m sure many of us, including myself have worked with gay individuals for years…not a big deal. Carr needs to focus on his mediocre game..
Do any of us actually care? We know he’s going to retire with a yacht based on the financial literacy he showed during Hard Knocks. The sign of mature people is not attributing someone’s success to anything other than their knowledge and hard work. So all you wokies can go to hell, he can manage my small savings if he needs to, I’d trust him. Cause nuts or female butts, you make me money, I love you, baby!
I just want to point out that a site that’s supposed to be overrun by white supremacists is full of people that … don’t give a shit. Although someone has clearly run off the lady that commented the most from Carolina.
The guy was third string on the depth chart and the Raiders just signed another DE and just drafted one. He was probably going to be cut. He did this to prevent that from happening. It wasn’t brave it was strategical. There is no risk for someone to come out gay anymore. There is only huge upside. Endorsements, playing time, media appearances. This was completely self serving nothing else. Brave? Give me a break. Whitlock said it best on his new show, he’s getting all this attention because he chooses to put his penis in men. No one cares where you stick your penis on the privacy of you home.We are way past this shit. This guy didn’t wanna get cut so he came out. Big whoop.
Nassib being gay is something that few players will care about one way or the other, but that won’t stop the NFL from milking this non-story all season long until we all throw up.
