Can The Michigan Offense Keep Its Foot On The Gas?

Videos by OutKick

It seems like Michigan‘s aggressive play-calling we all saw on Saturday is here to stay.

The Wolverine offense entered the game against Wisconsin with 21 plays of 20-plus yards, with 11 yards rushing. The team added three more plays of 20-plus yards in the 38-17 win over the Badgers.

Michigan’s five fourth-down tries and 30 pass attempts (30) in its dominating win over Wisconsin were both season-highs for an offense, MLive.com reports.

“I’ve mentioned this before, that everything we do we’re trying to win,” quarterback Cade McNamara said after Saturday’s win. “As we get into Big Ten play, there’s no reason to hold back now. We’re going to be aggressive on offense.”

The junior quarterback completed 17-of-28 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns to junior wide receiver Cornelius Johnson, while backup freshman quarterback J.J. McCarthy added a 56-yard touchdown pass and a scoring run of his own.

The Wolverines largely ran their way to four straight victories before Saturday’s win, and now continue the season with a 5-0 record. The offensive line allowed no sacks and just one tackle for loss — the unit entered the game ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten in both areas.

Michigan will hit the road again on Oct. 9 with a matchup against Nebraska at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CDT.
