It may take another year for them to be more competitive, but the Philadelphia Eagles refuse to stand pat and stay quiet in the NFC East.
Last season, Philly went 4-11-1, so the team certainly has a lot of shortcomings. But general manager Howie Roseman, one of the most aggressive GMs in the league, has already made some moves to make the Eagles better.
In the NFL Draft a few weeks back, the Eagles pulled off a bit of a surprise. The team traded down from No. 6 overall and later moved back up for DeVonta Smith.
The team also made the QB spot a priority, trading former first-round pick Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts. Moving Wentz hands the QB spot to second-year man Jalen Hurts, who had some impressive moments in the two games that he started for the Eagles in 2020.
While the team needs to upgrade the roster, there’s still one player who could come in right away and be a huge lift. That player is Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson.
Watson is unhappy in Houston and has publicly asked to be traded, but the Texans have not yet pulled the trigger on a trade.
What could the Eagles give Houston in return for the 25-year-old QB? It has to start and end with draft picks. Houston needs to rebuild their roster, and Watson is the biggest trade asset they have to get some new pieces.
The Eagles are not going to allow other teams in the conference to pass them up much longer. This organization will probably use whatever they can to get back to form within two years.
