Some college football programs are opting out of bowl games, leaving the door open for others to slide in. And according to Brett McMurphy of The Athletic, BYU and the Sun Belt conference thought about sliding into two.
BYU went 10-1 during the regular season and is currently scheduled to face UCF in the Boca Rotan Bowl on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Sun Belt Conference championship game between Coastal Carolina and Louisiana was canceled because of COVID-19 issues at Coastal.
So letting some of those schools and teams getting extra games might actually make sense. If they can play, why not?
But for now, it’s not happening, McMurphy added, reporting the schools decided against it “for various reasons.” That’s a shame because the more bowls, the better. Who cares if one school, or several schools, get the opportunity to win more than one?
