We are fans of Girl Scout cookies. How can you not be? Now, you have yet another reason to indulge in them. By buying Thin Mints and Lemon-Ups from Troop 6000 of New York City, you can also help out a great cause.
New York City’s Troop 6000 is a Girl Scout troop specially designed by Girl Scouts of Greater New York to “serve the thousands of girls living in the New York City shelter system” and will donate 100% of the proceeds to the cause.
In 2020, the New York City municipal shelter system provided beds to 122,926 different individuals, including 39,300 children, reports The Coalition for the Homeless.
“The Girl Scouts in Troop 6000 can earn badges for things such as science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, environmental protection and community service,” GMA adds. “They take field trips, visit workplaces and even go to Girl Scout camp.”
“Troop 6000 also helps the girls once they leave the shelter system. Their Transitional Programming Initiative, started in 2018, ensures that the girls introduced to Girl Scouts through this program will have the financial support to have access to Girl Scout troops in their new community.”
Troop 6000’s goal is to sell 500,000 packages. Currently, there are 242,293 left. You can help out by purchasing a few boxes right now.
“All of us at Girl Scouts of Greater New York are blown away by the recent outpouring of support for Troop 6000 in the form of Girl Scout Cookie purchases, and we are incredibly thankful that so many have felt moved to help us sustain and grow our effort to serve girls living in New York City family shelters,” Heidi Schmidt, director of Girl Scouts of Greater New York’s Troop 6000, says.
Just awesome. Enjoy, help, care. Way to go to all those involved. Oh, and share the cookies.
Mmmm… Lemonades…
No thanks. I seem to remember the Girl Scouts walking back their congratulations for justice Barrett and caving to the woke mob.
Zero my thoughts exactly no more cookies here either and i used to buy a bunch but not now from the woke girl scouts
It would be really useful in one of these articles to define what “100% of the proceeds” actually means. For a $5 box of GS cookies, how much goes directly to the cause?
I’ve been donating $$ directly to local troops, as they only get about 10% of the proceeds from cookie sales.
No thanks, too woke to toke!
