Buccaneers’ Antoine Winfield On Flashing Peace Sign At Tyreek Hill: ‘It Felt Amazing’

Tampa Bay’s win over Kansas City in Super LV was actually the second meeting between the two teams this season. They also squared off in Week 12 of the regular season, a 27-24 Chiefs win.

In that game, Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill erupted for more than 200 yards in the first quarter alone — finishing with 269 yards and three touchdowns. Along the way, Hill taunted Buccaneers rookie safety Antoine Winfield Jr. with his signature peace sign after he scored off a 75-yard strike from Patrick Mahomes.

Well, in one of the more memorable moments of SBLV, Winfield got his revenge. It came after a fourth down incompletion, which all but sealed the deal for the Buccaneers. The pass was intended for Hill. Winfield was in on the play. And once the play had ended, Winfield turned toward Hill and gave Hill a taste of his own medicine — flashing a peace sign right back at the Chiefs star.

Winfield was flagged for a taunting penalty, but he made it clear he had no regrets.

“The taunting, man, it’s something I just had to do,” Winfield said. “When we played them earlier, Hill went off on us. He back-flipped in front of my face and gave me the peace sign. So it was only right that I gave him the peace sign right back to him. It felt amazing to do that. I’m not even gonna lie.”

It just goes to show that you shouldn’t go too over the top in your celebrations and trash talks during the regular season. As Hill learned the hard way in a 31-9 drubbing, it can come back to haunt you. And as Winfield learned, payback sure is fun.

  1. Every official on the field should have gone over the prior game film in preparation for this game. Hill is allowed to “taunt” opposing players when he scores, and he does EVERY TIME. What Winfield did was nothing compared to the backflipping-peace sign flashing Hill.
