Biden Has Not Called Into Weekly COVID Briefings Since Taking Office

Joe Biden, who repeatedly promised to end COVID-19 during his presidential campaign, has yet to take part in any of the weekly calls covering the pandemic, as relayed by RealClearPolitics.

Vice President Kamala Harris has not taken part in the calls either.

“Every Tuesday, usually at 11 a.m. EST, all 50 governors dial in to the same conference call to coordinate federal and state responses to the coronavirus crisis. And until this past January, they heard each time from the vice president. Mike Pence, as head of the White House COVID task force, led those weekly discussions,” RealClearPolitics wrote. “Donald Trump dropped by from time to time. The calls continue under the current administration but without Biden.”

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu told RealClearPolitics, “It’s been a real frustration, I think it’s safe to say, for all 50 governors.”

Meanwhile, the Trump administration hosted 40 COVID-related calls, with former VP Mike Pence leading 39 of them, and Donald Trump making regular appearances, per the report.

“President Biden hasn’t been on any of them,” Nebraska Gov. Pete Rickettes said, “and Vice President Harris has only been on one, but that was for about five minutes and she didn’t take any questions.”

It gets worse — as no less than New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is leading the calls today. Cuomo, of course, is under fire for totally mishandling the pandemic and for alleged sexual misconduct.

White House Secretary Jen Psaki “explained that the New York governor was put in charge instead of the vice president because a change was needed,” RealClearPolitics wrote.

  1. Well, at least we have “the gold standard” leading these COVID meetings.

This story made me think of the scene in Anchorman 2 where Ron Burgundy puts his van in cruise control then makes chimichangas. Because that is Joe Biden as president

  2. C’mon man, give Basement Joe a break. His staff probably forgot to give him the number to call in or maybe he forgot, but I’m sure they will blame it on the previous administration.

  3. If you read the original article, there’s this passage included:

“Another difference between the administrations: the role of the vice presidents. Pence was the leader of the COVID response team. Harris’ responsibilities are elsewhere, including, as Biden has explained, addressing “the root causes” of the southern border migrant crisis. As a result, the medical experts are the ones talking to the governors on the weekly call, not the politicians.”

    Hey, Winston Smith, get busy…

  4. Is Obama in on the calls?

I’d really like to see if he’s just hanging out in his basement feeding the lines to Joe through an earpiece. He basically said he wanted to do this.
