Bears WR Coach Furrey Tells Anthony Miller 'We Don’t Need You’ In 2021

There is no denying the talent that Chicago Bears wide receiver Anthony Miller has. The Bears certainly look at him as a player who can still impact the team's roster in 2021.

That doesn't mean they will put up with his antics forever though.

The Bears were looking to make a deal with Miller this offseason, but couldn't do so. The team and player simply couldn't see eye to eye in the end.

Miller remains on Chicago's roster, but he's been given fair warning that if he gets out of line, he won't be part of the roster very long.

Pass catching coach Mike Furrey certainly wasn't afraid to express how he felt about Miller on Wednesday. He laid it out pretty straight to Miller about his attitude.

“It's not going to be a need-base, you know -- we don't need you,” Furrey said Wednesday.

“We've got guys that are going to be able to produce. You better be a pro, you better be on your details, you better do what we're asking you to do.”

The issues with Miller started when he was thrown out of the playoff game against the New Orleans Saints, a game which the Bears ultimately lost.

It's not the worst thing a player has ever done, but given the situation and Miller's history, Miller was already on thin ice with the team.

Chairman George McCaskey was critical of Miller, and now Furrey says that the team simply doesn't need Miller causing issues.

“Anthony's been in our meetings. He's been doing a great job. We haven't skipped a beat at all, so you know he's doing his job,” Furrey said.

“He's growing up, he's maturing, he's understanding all the things that we've talked about really for the last couple years.”

The line has been drawn, so we will see whether Miller does enough to stick on the roster and get a shot to play.

Last season, the 26-year-old caught 49 passes for 485 yards and two scores.

“There's a small increment in improvement, so he's done great. He's been in our rooms, no issues. He's been alert, he's been attentive and he's doing what we're asking him to do so it's going to be fun. I think the biggest thing is going to be need,” Furrey said.
