Baker Mayfield Is Brutally Honest After His Three Fumble Performance

Baker Mayfield's postgame Zoom press conference after Sunday's 23-16 loss to the New York Jets was short and not so sweet if you are a Browns fan who figured there would be no problem rolling into New Jersey and getting a win. Mayfield attempted 53 passes while missing his top four wide receivers due to COVID and contact tracing. While there's plenty of blame to go around for the Browns loss, Bake wanted it squarely on his shoulders and that was that.

“I failed this team. I put three balls on the ground. I didn’t do enough,” Mayfield said during his Zoom press conference before walking away thinking about those three fumbles, including a late 4th quarter fumble on fourth and inches that ended any chance of a comeback.

The loss puts Cleveland into a must-win situation next Sunday against the Steelers who beat the Colts and wrapped up the AFC North with the Browns loss.

“It was inches. You can’t lose the ball on a sneak,” Kevin Stefanski said of his quarterback's performance. "“You’ve got to protect the football.”

Stefanski wasn't going to let his quarterback take full credit for the loss. He wanted in on that action too.

“We got beat today. I got outcoached, we got outplayed. We did the things we can’t do, minus-2 in turnover battle, penalties, drops, not good. Credit to the Jets," Stefanski added.

The good news for the Browns is that Pittsburgh could sit Big Ben in Sunday's game. Roethlisberger just smiled today when asked if he would sit out Week 17.
