Attorney General Nominee Declines To Answer Question About Gender In Sports

Attorney general nominee Merrick Garland declined to take a stance on whether biological men should be able to compete in women’s sports during Tuesday's confirmation hearing.

Former Democratic-turned-Republican Sen. John Kennedy posed the question to Garland, and Garland refused to give a firm answer.

"This is a very difficult societal question," Garland answered.

Kennedy fired back that this was the type of question Garland should be prepared to answer in his new role.

"I know but you're going to be Attorney General," Kennedy said.

Garland is a longtime federal judge and former federal prosecutor, and is in line to become America's top law enforcement official.

A number of sports governing bodies have ruled out biological men competing against women. Still others allow it despite the obvious injury risks, citing "inclusion" and "equality."
