Anthony Davis Slams Lakers Defense Following Loss To Spurs: 'We Didn't Play Any Defense'

Anthony Davis was not in a mood to mince words on Thursday night, following the Lakers' 118-109 loss at home against the San Antonio Spurs, dropping them to 6-3 on the young season.

Davis was part of a defensive unit that allowed the Spurs to shoot 46 percent from the field, 45 percent from three-point range, and score 65 points in the first half.

“We didn’t play any defense,” Davis said after the loss. “Our defense was s*** tonight."

The power forward, who scored 23 points in the loss, went on to say that the team played selfishly on the defensive side of the ball, and that no one, including himself, stepped up.

"We didn’t play one lick of defense, and them guys did whatever they want. They came into this game very comfortable. Guys made shots, made plays," Davis said.

"We got off to a slow start, and even though we made some plays, made some stops, we never had the game under control. We never played defense from the opening tip to the final buzzer. That’s why we lost.”

The Lakers currently rank 11th overall in the NBA, allowing 113.6 points per game. They allowed 113.4 points last season, but were expected to be better defensively heading into the early part of the 2020-21 season.

The two teams did show solidarity prior to the game in Los Angeles, locking in arms in a show of support over the incidents that have taken place in the country the last few days.
